Something Different

For those that may check this ever so often to see IF I've done anything, here you go. I added a link over to the right of my Dad's Blog..."Robert's Tomfoolery". With the mere definition of "Tomfoolery" as foolish or senseless behavior, you can see where my Dad's brain drifts towards. And most of his humor I totally enjoy. (Hey, it's his genes that are in me!). But you will also see some insights into this incredible man I get to call my dad. I love him.

As for me....Ahhhh, life is going OK! We still don't have a "senior minister" and the process we went through once before that ended in a stalemate of sorts is back on. And there are some other exciting things happening around here, i.e., building renovations in the auditorium and down in the children's area. Some possible stuff happening with intergenerational worship and getting into the schools to talk about "character." I like all that.

I'll leave you with a poem that helped me a bunch a few weeks back...It really brought peace to me and I still reflect on it. The actual title is "His Billows" but I found it adapted to more of today's language.

His Waves

They are HIS waves, whether they break over us
Hiding His face in smothering spray and foam;
Or, smooth and sparkling, spread a path before us,
And to our haven bear us safely home.

They are HIS waves, whether for our sure comfort,
He walks across them, stilling all our fear;
Or to our cry there comes no aid nor answer,
And in the lonely silence none is near.

They are HIS waves, whether we are hard-striving
Through tempest-driven waves that never cease,
While deep to deep with clamor loud is calling;
Or at His word they hush themselves in peace.

They are HIS waves, whether He separates them,
Making us walk dry ground where seas had flowed;
Or lets tumultuous breakers surge about us
Rushing unchecked across our only road.

They are HIS waves, and He brings us through them;
So has He promised, so His love will do;
Keeping and leading, guiding and upholding,
To His sure harbor, He will bring us through.

Annie Johnson Flint

Psalm 42:7 Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me. 8 By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me—

a prayer to the God of my life...

11 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
