Joshua 5

BONUS TIME

"Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door/ Who is it for?"

(BTW, Nobody got Monday's BONUS TIME: Nickle Creek's "Out of the Woods". NC is a great folksy, bluegrass, modern kind of sound...i like them a lot. Love the mandolin.)

Had a great Wednesday gathering at the Power Source Cafe. We had the message interspersed with songs. Camped out in Joshua 5. Here was our order for the night:

Come, let us worship and bow down
I will call upon the Lord

Part 1--obedience...(Joshua and the Israelites are about to attack Jericho, so to prepare for war, Joshua circumcises all the males...none were while in the forty years of desert time and that was the covenant with Abraham. OUCH!) But they obeyed!

Creat In Me A Clean Heart
Lord, Take Control

Part 2--worship...the Israelites no longer had manna provided, at this time they were living off the land and THEY LOVED IT. The celebrated with a feast and worshiped.

You're worthy of my praise
O Worship the King

Part 3--the presence of God...interesting / it wasn't until after obedience and worship that the commander of the Lord's army appeared (Jesus). We don't go about it that way, do we... We want to see/feel his presence THEN we will obey, THEN we will worship. Not right!

I Stand in Awe
Here I am to Worship

Part 4--Victory...do you really think feet stomping on the ground for seven days and a loud shout brought down the walls? It was God...and he started the process through the people way back when the priests stepped in the water and it parted. WHOA! What are some walls you have and are you willing to step into the water to begin the victory that is yours for the taking.

The Battle belongs to the Lord

Thanks to Doug Allison (my friend, co-worker, wild at heart brother) for these thoughts.

Comments:
Isn't that from a Jars of Clay song? Can't remember which one, though, if it is.... (and I did look up Monday's lyric after I had NO IDEA! but I didn't answer since Googling is against the rules! :-)

No points for me today.....just looked it up and I was wrong.....anybody else out there know the answer? (I did know that song, could even hear it in my head, just couldn't place it)

That's actually a fascinating song on several levels. People don't realize that Eleanor Rigby in the song is very likely a custodian at the church where the other character in the song (Father McKinzee?) preaches, and that she wants to be married -- hence the specific images of her cleaning up wedding rice after weddings, and waiting by her door hoping for a caller. The face in the jar by the door is most likely makeup - that is, she has prettied herself up, hoping for a gentleman caller, but no one ever comes. She dies and is 'buried along with her name' -- she has no children. There's more, but you probably caught all this already and I hate to bore you. Good pick Nino! - Brian

Adam, with the final answer gets it. Song and band. Thanks Brian for the history lesson as well. great try, Jenni and thanks for abiding by the rules.
